The Youth Intro program allows to students in grades 6 and up to experience rowing in a non-competitive environment. The goal for our Intro athletes is to develop a strong foundation of skills and adapt to the fitness requirements of rowing so that they may eventually move up to join the development and competitive program. Middle and High School rowing is a growing and exciting part of the RowAmerica Greenwich. All interested athletes are encouraged to come visit and give it a try!
Our Intermediate/Competitive program is for athletes in grades 8 and up that have completed one of our Intro/Learn To Row programs or have solid sculling experience through a different rowing club’s youth program. During the winter months, the Intermediate/Competitive program will incorporate strength and conditioning along with indoor rowing and cardio workouts to build core fitness.
Enter the challenging and competitive world of youth racing! This competitive program is open to all boys and girls, lightweight and heavyweight, who wish to train to improve speed and skills as well as develop their true potential at high performance level. The program aims to develop rowing skills and team fundamentals and help rowers improve their performance at competition. We also offer help with college recruitment.
Teams will travel to both spring and fall regattas which may be local, regional or national (for those boats that qualify). In addition to the stated practice times, athletes will be expected to be available to load/unload the boat trailer both before and after regatta days.
Athletes may race at numerous regattas including: Head of the Riverfront, Head of the Housatonic, Head of the Charles, and Head of the Schuylkill.
Each competitive athlete will go through a selection process on the ergometer and on the water.
RowAmerica’s summer sessions are a fun, yet intensive, introduction to small-boat rowing. Offered on consecutive days, sessions can be combined for a great summer experience to work on technique and maintain fitness. Both experienced youth and those new to the sport of rowing will benefit from the extended practice sessions and additional time on the water. Challenge your fitness with endurance and interval training and gain the experience needed to qualify for the fall Racing Team, or just come join us for a great summer activity!
